A Franklin man faces 22 criminal charges for alleged theft and fraud at a company that distributes religious materials. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) announced the arrest Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Giancarlo Trejo, 37, was booked into the Williamson County Jail on a $250,000 bond. On Oct. 7, a Williamson County grand jury indicted him on one count of felony theft, three counts of felony computer offense, 10 counts of forgery, seven counts of computer offense and one count of criminal simulation, according to a TBI statement.

The TBI began investigating Trejo on Oct. 12, 2025, at the request of 21st Judicial District Attorney General Stacey Edmonson.

Investigators allege Trejo funneled fraudulent contacts through his employer to collect referral fees. He also allegedly distributed complimentary Bibles and asked recipients to send payments to his personal account. The TBI said he used his employer's credit card for personal expenses and travel.

Baptist Press identified the employer as Lifeway Christian Resources, a Nashville-area publisher and distributor of Christian materials. Lifeway learned of the alleged conduct in May 2025 and found "serious violations" of company financial and ethical policies during an internal review, Baptist Press reported.

Lifeway's leadership and board of trustees referred the matter to local law enforcement and are cooperating with the Williamson County District Attorney's Office, according to Baptist Press. Baptist Press identified the employee as "Giancarlo Montemayor." The TBI identified him as Giancarlo Trejo.

"I was shocked, saddened and disappointed to learn that a trusted leader misappropriated ministry funds for personal gain," James Carroll, chairman of Lifeway's Board of Trustees, told Baptist Press.

Lifeway spokesperson Carol Pipes told Baptist Press that auditors confirmed the incident was isolated and that the company is updating its internal controls.

Williamson Source first reported the indictment locally.

All charges are allegations. Trejo is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. No attorney for Trejo has been identified in public records.
