Franklin High School's volleyball team takes its 23-match winning streak to Murfreesboro on Tuesday, Oct. 20, for a Class AAA state quarterfinal against Dobyns-Bennett at Siegel High School.

First serve is at 2:30 p.m. CT. It will be the Admirals' first state tournament appearance since 2015.

Franklin (30-1) earned its spot by sweeping Green Hill 25-7, 25-10, 25-7 in the sectional round on Oct. 15, according to the Williamson Herald. The Admirals have not lost since Aug. 22 and went a perfect 14-0 in District 10-AAA during the regular season.

The roster includes four college recruits: juniors Jorden Robinson, Ellyson Fogle and Emerson "Emmy" Garner, plus senior Brynn Penington. Robinson, a middle hitter, is committed to Wake Forest. Many of the players have been teammates since fifth grade, Yahoo Sports reported.

Junior Fogle led the sectional win with 13 kills. Garner posted 24 assists, three kills and eight digs. Senior Grace Caroline Steih added seven kills, and junior libero Maggie Myhr contributed 14 digs and five assists.

Coach MaKayla Beebe, in her sixth year leading the program, told the Williamson Herald that aggressive, consistent serving was central to the game plan against Green Hill. The Admirals served seven aces in the match, with Fogle and Riley Neese combining for five.

After the Oct. 8 district semifinal win over Page, Beebe reflected on the program's long wait for a state tournament run. "We play the best of the best and tournament time can be bittersweet when you're not that team," she told the Williamson Herald on Oct. 8.

Dobyns-Bennett (26-11) reached the state field by beating Maryville 3-1 in the sectional, according to Tri-Cities Sports. The Kingsport program is making its 13th state tournament appearance and second straight under coach Katie Helvey. Dobyns-Bennett won the 2009 state title. Norah Shook, a standout hitter, and setter Reese Hatcher anchor the lineup.

Dobyns-Bennett fell to Blackman in last year's opening round 25-23, 25-23, 25-23, Tri-Cities Sports reported.

The state tournament format has changed this year. After a championship-bracket loss in the quarterfinals or semifinals, the best a team can finish is third, according to the Williamson Herald. Semifinals and consolation play begin Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Siegel. The championship match moves to Middle Tennessee State University on Friday, Oct. 23, at 5 p.m.

Defending state champion Summit also plays Tuesday, facing Science Hill at noon.
