Fairview Middle School's boys cross-country team won the Class AA state championship Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association (TMSAA) State Tournament.
The title was one of four state championships Williamson County middle schoolers claimed that day, first reported by Williamson Source.
Jace Donegan led Fairview with a second-place individual finish in the Class AA boys race. Jackson Yawn placed fifth. The roster also includes Jonathan Edwards, Carson Howlett, Alex Beard, Remi Meseck and Colten Akens.
Coach Ryan Pett said the group has been running together for the past two years.
"This season, their lofty goals and hard work fortunately collided with an opportunity, and we were able to make the most of it," Pett said. "There were a couple of other really great teams at the State meet, but we had the right stuff on the right day."
Fairview's girls team placed fourth in Class AA.
Woodland Middle's girls team won the Class AAA team title. Coach Andrew Swanson called it the program's first state championship and credited a strong summer of training. Maya Li, Maisie Brooks, Ruby Miller, Ella Young, Emily Brown, Avery Michael, Rylee Michael, Lucy McGavin, Ava Beck and Bodee Chatman make up the roster.
Woodland's Ty Burton won the Class AAA boys individual race. Swanson described Burton as the No. 1 returning runner in Class AAA entering the season. Teammate Adam Johnson finished second, and Swanson called both runners strong leaders on Woodland's state runner-up boys team.
Spring Station Middle's Ireland Jameson won the Class AAA girls individual title. Coach Jason Koch said Jameson originally came out for cross-country as a sixth grader to get in shape for soccer.
Other Williamson County finishers in the top eight included Ruby Miller of Woodland (sixth, Class AAA girls), Grayson Welsh of Page Middle (seventh, Class AAA boys), McCoy Hunter of Mill Creek Middle (eighth, Class AAA boys), Connor Pruitt of Thompson's Station Middle (eighth, Class AA boys) and Finley Mercer of Thompson's Station (eighth, Class AA girls).
Page Middle's girls placed third and Brentwood Middle's boys placed third in Class AAA team standings. The TMSAA state meet is the final competition of the middle school cross-country season.
