Franklin High School hosts cross-town rival Centennial at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, in a non-region matchup between two Williamson County programs.

The Admirals (3-3, 2-2 Region 6-6A) dropped their second straight game Friday, Sept. 25, falling 28-7 to Independence in a Region 6-6A contest. The Cougars (0-6, 0-1 Region 5-5A) are still searching for their first win after a 44-0 loss at Page the same night.

Friday's game carries no region implications for either team. Franklin competes in Class 6A Region 6; Centennial plays in Class 5A Region 5. The two schools are both Williamson County programs based in Franklin.

Franklin's skid

The Admirals opened the season with a 40-7 win over LaVergne on Aug. 21, then lost 17-7 at Gallatin a week later. Region victories over Shelbyville Central (42-0 on Sept. 4) and Coffee County Central (26-20 on Sept. 11) followed. Then the schedule stiffened.

Ravenwood blanked Franklin 56-0 on Sept. 18. Independence followed with the 28-7 win a week later.

Independence wide receiver Brody Bullock torched the Admirals' secondary with 15 catches for 198 yards and a touchdown, according to the Williamson Herald. Bullock also recorded two tackles, including a sack. Franklin managed just 114 passing yards and 85 rushing yards in the loss, per MaxPreps.

Head coach Josh Adkins and the Admirals need a strong performance before returning to region play.

Centennial's search for win No. 1

The Cougars have been competitive at times. Their first two losses came by a combined six points: 20-17 to Stewarts Creek on Aug. 21 and 21-14 at Fairview on Aug. 28. Since then, the margins have widened.

In a Sept. 18 loss to Antioch, quarterback Rhys Barnett connected with wide receiver Landyn Branch for the Cougars' lone touchdown. Barnett finished 6-for-10 for 83 yards, and Branch hauled in four catches for 72 yards, the Williamson Herald reported.

Centennial's defense has shown fight. Aiden Araujo posted 10 tackles with four for loss and a sack against Antioch. Reeves Stanley and Alexander Zoeller each added 10 tackles, and the unit forced three turnovers.

Head coach Chad Broadrick's squad will need that defensive effort against a Franklin offense that scored 26 or more in three of its first four games.

What's next

After the Oct. 2 game, both teams return to region schedules. Centennial faces Nolensville on Oct. 8 in Region 5-5A action. Franklin hosts Brentwood on Oct. 16 in Region 6-6A play.
